One of the oldest and best known clubs in the county,  Basford's history includes many Notts Alliance honours, FA Cup appearances during the forty's and fifty's and two Notts FA Senior Cup triumphs, their last final win coming in 1988 which included many great names including Wayne Lear, Billy Daft, and Paul Jepson to name a few.  The period from 1988 through to 2003 saw limited success however the appointment of Martin Soley as 1st team manager saw a revivial of the clubs fortunes and in 2005 both 1st team and reserves won respective league titles in the N.A.A, and the 1st team also secured the Notts Intermediate trophy .In 2006 Basford were accepted into the N.S.L and an excellent start saw the 1st team win 6 out of the 1st 7 games. This good showing was maintained throughout the season and the 1st team finished a very respectable 3rd place and had the honour of having club captain Mark Dimech, centre midfielder Richard Oakes & Centre forward Kevin Walker selected to the N.S.L. representative squad. The season 2007/8 saw the 1st team under the leadership of Chris Munroe and despite a slow start blighted by injuries and unavailabilites and a host of new signings eventually the team found form finishing the campaign very strong and providing a very good foundation for 2008/9.

For the 2008-9 campaign both N.S.L Basford teams will be looking to build on successful campaigns that saw the 1st team finish with 32 points out of the last 39 on offer and the Reserves who secured a cup final place only to lose on penalties to Wollaton reserves. The 1st team management team for the 2008-9 camapign sees  Chris Munroe  working alongside Andy Benner. Off the field the club has many ground improvements taking place at Greenwich Avenue with ultimately floodlights proposed.

Update

Basford Committee have reached a decision to allow Bulwell FC to remain at Greenwich Avenue to see out the season with future discussions to follow.

Tough Loss for United 1sts

A tough loss for Basford United today at Greenwich Avenue despite battling back from a 0-2 half time deficit and looking a beaten team at half time United went into the latter stages of the game as the more likely side to win the game after drawing level via 2 penalties within the 1st 10 minutes of the second period. It was  a bad error that gifted Bulwell the late 90th minute winner and 3 points. United drew nothing but praise from Mgt for a battling 2nd half display defying the odds with us playing the 2nd period with only 1 fit defender with Luke Humphreys (broken nose) Gary Wright back strain and Mark Foster (Groin strain). In a game of 3 cast iron penalties awarded to Basford by referee John Beckett the 1st was placed wide by Kev Walker in the 1st period and the two to bring us level early second period were cooly despatched by a 1 legged Mark Foster and then Ash MacPherson cooly pulled United level on 56 minutes. Despite alot of possession and several excellent opportunities Bulwell snatched it late in the day. Earlier Bulwell were well worth a 2-0 advantage via some excellent counterattacking football that delivered 2 excellent goals.

Good decision for the N.S.L

Pleased to advise that the formal complaint lodged by Basford against Radford FC has been up held by the Notts FA and Radford have been fined for signing James Needham without lodging an official 7 day approach to Basford. In an important ruleing for the N.S.L this gives N.S.L clubs some measure of protection from clubs from higher leagues trieing to take advantage of the dual registered ruling without lodging official 7 day approaches.

1st team power past Keyworth

Ash MacPherson a fine hat trick and a constant menance

A ruthless Basford United finally delivered what they have been promising for many a week with poor Keyworth United being the recipricant of an 8-2 thrashing today at Greenwich Avenue. With Basford 2nds also recording a late home victory this represented a very good day for Basford United. Basford 1sts produced some scintalating football 1st period of todays game which resulted in  a spell of 6 goals in a 19 minute spell to go in at the break 6-2. ironically United went behind early doors as Keyworth registered the early goal and then with Basford rampant drew level at 2-2 with a highly disputed goal with Basford feeling agrieved that like the 1st, the goalscorer Wheeldon looked a good several yards offside. Basford though were not to be denyed and with Kevin Walker and Ash MacPherson taking over both registered 2 goals each during that 1st period. Gary Wright returning powered home a great header from a corner and the impressive Mark Foster on the right flank latched onto some fine approach play from Kevin Walker to clinically finish for his 1st goal for Basford. With Juree Staples and debut boy Chris Marks forming a very impressive partnership that made the game look so simple but highly effective United cantered into a 6-2 half time advantage with ominously plenty still in the tank. Second period Basford remained camped in the Keyworth half and despite taking the foot off the peddle registered further goals from Ash MacPherson to complete a fine hat trick and the returning Lewis Johnson cap a fine performance with a well deserved goal. Justin Evans was denyed a goal with visiting keeper Ball making 2 superb stops to deny the striker but all in all a very good Basford performance, with the only blemish being a hamstring pull for Lee Carter that we hope is not too serious.Defensively a very good showing from the back 6 of Curtis, Tobias, Luke, Dimech,Wrighty and Lee  with full back Tobias Richardson back to his best.

Basford 2nds were made to work hard by visiting GSB and left it late before registering the come from behind victory with sub Joe Brooks and a late winner from James Needham settling the game. Earlier GSB took the lead as United struggled to come to terms with a difficult hard surface.

Lots happening at Greenwich Avenue
Lots of good news coming out of the Basford camp this week with firstly the good news that Daniel England and Jason Sanders have accepted the joint Mangement position for the newly formed Basford academy team that we hope subject to going through the application process will take there place in the N.S.L Division 2 Next seasonJay and Danny have not managed Sat football before but in there 1st season have formed and run Headstocks FC who ply there trade in the Notts Sunday combination and use Greenwich Avenue as their home Sunday base. Headstocks have impressed Basford officials with the full hearted committed approach they apply and there commitment to training and discipline and they even were given the opportunity to play our 1st team in the 1st preseason friendly of this season and gave an excellent display. With Headstocks having some excellent young players then hopefully Danny and Jay will beable to prise some of these from other Saturday clubs to form a very good foundation for the club.
Perimeters and Dugouts on order
More good news with perimeter fencing which will go around pitch 2 and new 8 seater dugouts for the main pitch and 2nd pitch likely to be ordered over the next week, additionally high netting will be erected at the bottom end of the main 1st team pitch. Both enhancements are crucial and have been secured by working closely with Evo Richards of Cavs in securing funding to enhance facilities to give us 2 very good pitches. In return Basford have given commitment to the junior, 2nd teams and Vets of Cavs to continue to play at Greenwich Avenue. All these projects will commence in Febuary and this will be followed by vast preseason work on pitch 2 where we will be dumping a significant amount of soil on the surface and reseeding to level the surface off. This will lead us too the final and biggest project for the summer which involves securing funding for floodlights which again is well placed and for which United have an assurance from a football league club to send a team to Greenwich Avenue to switch on the lights, further details to follow on this one.

 Jay caps a great day

Jay walls capped a excellent day yesterday with the winning pen for the refs against the managers of the N.S.L, but the real winner on the day was the good reputation of Nottingham folk and our own N.S.L in supporting and contributing too two very worthy causes. With over £1200 raised on the day as well as more pledged. With young Aston Walls trust fund one that the club has taken very close to our own hearts then absolutely delighted with the publicity that is being acheived  for Jay and Sarah to raise money for their little boy and as a club we will continue to try all means to raise money over the next 12 months which we hope will culminate in we hope a prestige game to switch on the floodlights. A fun day saw good representation from the club yesterday with Andy,Neil and Munz lining up for the managers  and alot of credit must be given to all those who have given up so much time to put yesterdays event together, from those organising such as Colin Ward, Bilborough Pelican in hosting and providing a great pitch and top hospitalities and for all the N.S.L committee members such as Darrel,Dick, Kirky and Nidge to name but a few for ensuring the day proceeded smoothly with the required level of publicity.
